“Views”
2025-2026
The “Views” series came into being much as the earlier “Stones” had in a new place, whose landscape and light became the natural impulse for these works. The south of France, where mountains meet the sea, opened a space of intense encounter with nature, light, and colour. It is the atmosphere of that place – its luminosity, its mutability, its inner rhythm that permeates the entire cycle.
The paintings are not direct transcriptions of particular landscapes. They are, rather, painterly interpretations of impressions: moments suspended between observation and feeling. The southern light does not describe forms here, it dissolves them, builds chromatic tensions, opens the space of the canvas. Mountains, the line of the sea, the sky appear sometimes only as an echo, or a distant memory of a view.
Each painting carries its own rhythm and its own temperature of colour. The titles become significant clues. They may lead toward the sources of inspiration, but they do not foreclose interpretation. Views is an attempt to capture the relationship between place and memory, between an actual landscape and its inner reflection.
Colour plays a fundamental role in this series. It is the bearer of light, emotion, and space. Intense, often contrastive pairings of hues create paintings that pulse with the energy of the south, while at the same time leaving room for silence and contemplation.
The cycle may be read as a record of the process of making a new space one’s own – of slow immersion in its light, its climate, its daily presence. Views does not document a place; it is the trace of an experience of living among mountains, sea, and the light of the south.
